WhatsApp’s Latest Beta: Voice Messages for AI and Quick Reactions

WhatsApp is testing a new feature that could change how users interact with its AI assistant, Meta AI. This update is currently in beta testing for Android users. The new feature will allow users to send voice messages to the AI chatbot.

WABetaInfo, a WhatsApp feature tracker, reported this development. The feature is being tested in the WhatsApp beta version 2.24.16.10 for Android. Users who are part of the Google Play Beta program can try this new feature.

The update adds a new voice message icon in the chat interface with Meta AI. This icon looks like the one used for voice messages in regular chats. It appears next to the text input field at the bottom of the screen. Users can record and send voice messages to Meta AI using this icon.

Meta AI will process the voice message and respond with a text message. This new feature expands Meta AI’s abilities beyond its current functions, like generating images. It now includes audio processing as well.

This update is especially useful for users who prefer speaking over typing. It’s helpful for people who are often on the move or in situations where typing is difficult. The voice message feature makes it easier for these users to interact with the AI assistant.

WhatsApp is also testing another feature to make user interactions smoother. This feature lets users react to messages by double-tapping them. When a user double-taps a message, a heart emoji will appear by default. This is similar to features already available on Instagram and Facebook.

The double-tap reaction feature is also in beta testing. It aims to make user engagement easier and more convenient. However, WhatsApp hasn’t announced when this feature will be available to all users.

These new features show Meta’s commitment to improving user experience across its platforms. By integrating AI and streamlining communication, WhatsApp is adapting to users’ changing needs and preferences.

The voice message feature for Meta AI is a significant step forward. It shows how AI assistants are becoming more versatile and user-friendly. This could lead to more natural and efficient interactions between users and AI assistants in the future.

As these features are still in testing, they may change before the final release. WhatsApp often tests new features with a small group of users before making them available to everyone. This helps the company identify and fix any issues before the wide release.

These updates reflect the ongoing evolution of messaging apps. They’re no longer just for text messages. They’re becoming more interactive and intelligent, with AI playing a bigger role in how we communicate.
