Last year, Google announced that it’s going to shut down its smart messaging app- Allo. The time came on March 12, 2019, when Google finally said goodbye to Allo at a banner across Allo’s official website.
Google, in the beginning, launched Allo with a video chat service, Duo in the year 2016. Duo gained a user base big enough to sustain it, but Allo could not become a hit. Thus, Google decided to kill Allo and provide some of its features like GIFs and Smart Reply to its RCS-enabled Messages app. Compared to Duo (Downloaded more than a billion times from the Play Stor), Allo gained super-modest traction on Android, with 10 million+ installs only.
But, you can still download your chats from Google Allo. The Help Page of Allo walks you through the process. Ensure you have the latest version of Allo installed on your phone, and then you need to follow these steps:
1. Open Allo On your Android phone
2. Now go to the Menu, then Settings
3. Tap Chat
4. Chose an option:
* Export messages from your chats such as message text, but no photos or videos.
* You can also export stored media from chats such as photos, videos, etc.
* Choose where to want to store those file. Your messages will be in a comma-separated values (CSV) file while the media attachments will be in a zip file.
* Once downloaded, choose where you want to download the file
Now the tech giant is focused on a single messaging app, as it has a better chance of gaining huge momentum.
