In a recent move to promote responsible social media use among teenagers, Instagram, owned by Meta, has rolled out a new feature called “nighttime nudges.” The initiative aims to encourage teens to log off the platform during late hours and prioritize adequate sleep.
Recognizing the significance of sleep, particularly for young individuals, Meta outlined the new feature in a blog post. When teenagers spend more than 10 minutes in specific sections of the app, such as Reels or Direct Messages, late-night notifications will prompt them to be mindful of the time and consider closing the application.

The “nighttime nudges” feature is the latest addition to Instagram’s parental supervision tools, part of Meta’s broader effort to enhance user safety and address concerns about the well-being of young users on its platforms. This initiative follows Meta’s announcement in June, where the company revealed its plans to introduce more tools allowing parents to monitor their children’s activities on social media.
Meta says it will continue to add parental tools in 2024. Additionally, Meta is extending these parental supervision tools to Facebook’s Messenger. Parents will soon be able to set scheduled breaks, review their teens’ contact lists, and monitor the individuals their teens have blocked. This move reflects Meta’s commitment to providing parents with the tools necessary to oversee and guide their teens’ online experiences.
